The Media Management feature in WP Spotlight simplifies the way you interact with your WordPress media library. You can upload, insert, edit, delete, and download media files—all from the Spotlight search interface—without navigating to the Media Library in your WordPress dashboard.
Accessing Media Management
Open WP Spotlight: Use the main key bind Alt+S (Check key bind customization to set your own keyboard shortcut)
Select Media:
- Use the key bind for Media if you’ve assigned one (default:Alt+M).
- Or, access Media from the WP Spotlight main menu.
Media Management Options
Once you select Media, a submenu appears with five management options: Insert, Edit, Upload, Delete, and Download.
1. Insert Media
Purpose: Insert a media file directly into any content on your site without opening the Media Library.
How to Use:
Choose Insert Media from the media submenu.
Select the media file you want to insert from the list or search for it by name.
Click on the file to insert it into the content. (e.g., in a post, page, or custom content type editor).
NOTE: This feature currently works only for the Gutenberg editor. We'll provide support for other builders in future updates
2. Edit Media
Purpose: Access media file details, such as title, alt text, and captions, directly from WP Spotlight.
How to Use:
Select Edit Media from the submenu.
Browse the list of media files or search for a specific file by name.
Click on the file to open its attachment details, where you can update metadata like Alt Text, Title, Caption, and Description.
Make your changes and save if needed.
3. Upload Media
Purpose: Upload new media files to your WordPress media library from anywhere on your site.
How to Use:
Choose Upload Media from the submenu.
WP Spotlight will show you a file dropzone directly in searc, where you can drag and drop files to upload them to your dashboard.
Once uploaded, the file will be available in your media library and ready to be inserted into content or edited as needed.
4. Delete Media
Purpose: Remove media files from your library.
How to Use:
Select Delete Media from the media options.
A list of media files will appear. You can browse this list or use the search bar to find the file by name.
Click on the file to delete it permanently from your media library.
Note: Use this feature cautiously, as deleted files are permanently removed and may need to be re-uploaded if accidentally deleted.
5. Download Media
Purpose: Download a media file from your WordPress library to your local device.
How to Use:
Choose Download from the media submenu.
A list of recent media files will appear, or you can search for a specific file by name.
Click on the file you want to download. WP Spotlight will initiate an instant download to your device.
Example Workflows
Quickly Inserting an Image into a Post
- Open WP Spotlight and select Media > Insert Media.
- Search for the image by name or select it from the list.
- WP Spotlight will insert the image into your post or page editor at the location of your cursor.
Deleting Unwanted Media
- Open WP Spotlight and go to Media > Delete Media.
- Locate the media file you no longer need by browsing or searching by name.
- Click on the file to delete it from your library.
