Customize Shortcut Key on demand
WP Spotlight's key bind customization lets you create keyboard shortcuts to search and manage WordPress tasks efficiently. This guide will walk you through accessing and customizing key binds for each action, ensuring that your workflow is as streamlined as possible.
Key Bind Overview
WP Spotlight includes default key binds for all search parameters to keep the search as fast, intuitive and easy to use as possible. These can be customized to suit individual preferences, with up to 4 key combinations available.
Accessing Key Bind Settings
Open WP Spotlight: Use the main key bind (Alt+S for windows, Options+S for macOS) to open WP Spotlight. WP Spotlight provides a common set of key binds for both Windows and macOS with the only difference being that for macOS instead of the Alt button you'll use the Option button.
Access Key Binds Panel: Select Key Binds from the category menu, or use the Key Binds shortcut (Alt+K)
Another way to access the key bind setting would be to go to Installed Plugins => WP Spotlight => You’ll find the key bind settings among the plugin sub-settings.
In the Key Binds panel, you’ll see a list of all default key binds and options to customize each.
Customizing Key Binds
To modify a key bind, hit the Alt+K(default) to go to the key bind setup tab:
Select the Action: Click on the action you want to reassign (e.g., “Open Spotlight,” “Plugins,” “Themes”).
Enter New Key Combination:
Go to the custom key(s) column and press up to 4 keys one after the other to set a new combination (e.g., Ctrl THEN Alt THEN P).
Don’t hit enter after setting up your key bind because that will also be considered a key so after setting your desired key bind just click away or press Esc and your custom keyboard shortcut for that action will be set.
NOTE: Try to use unique custom key bind combinations that don’t overlap with browser/system shortcuts to avoud avoid conflicts.
Key Bind Customization Limitations
Maximum of 4 Keys: WP Spotlight accepts up to 4 keys per bind. This lets you create complex shortcuts without triggering common keyboard functions.
Restoring Default Key Binds
If you want to revert back to WP Spotlight’s original shortcuts:
- Open the Key Binds panel.
- Click Restore Defaults at the bottom.
- All customizations will be replaced with default settings.

Troubleshooting Key Bind Issues
Key Bind Not Responding: Ensure the combination doesn’t conflict with system shortcuts. If the issue persists, please contact our support.
Unwanted Behavior: If a custom key bind is triggering unexpected functions, reset to default and reassign carefully to avoid conflicts.
This flexibility in key binds allows you to tailor WP Spotlight to your preferences, optimizing efficiency for your WordPress tasks.
